How to Choose: Liposuction vs CoolSculpting

How to Choose: Liposuction vs CoolSculpting

So, you’ve been hitting the gym and eating healthy, but you still can’t seem to get rid of that extra layer. If this sounds like you, you may want to consider a body contouring procedure to help you achieve your desired results. At our office, we offer both liposuction and CoolSculpting.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure done to eliminate stubborn fat pockets on almost any area of the body. During the procedure, one or more very small incisions are created in the targeted area. Then, a narrow suction tool called a cannula is inserted through the incisions to remove the excess fat. Because the fat is removed from the body, it cannot regrow, for long-lasting results. There is some downtime as this is a surgical procedure, but patients tolerate it very well.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared device that uses targeted cooling technology to freeze and eliminate stubborn fat cells. It is nonsurgical and noninvasive, meaning no incisions, needles, or stitches are used.

During treatment, a vacuum applicator is used to deliver the cooling energy at the surface of the skin. By exposing the unwanted fat cells at a critically low temperature, they are crystallized and die. Once these fat cells die, they are naturally eliminated from the body, and cannot grow back.

CoolSculpting can be used on many areas of the body, including the chin, upper arms, flanks, abdomen, and inner and outer thighs. There is no downtime needed since it is noninvasive.

Which One is Right for You?

The treatment option that is right for you will depend on your individual treatment goals. If you have a smaller amount of stubborn fat, or would like to undergo a noninvasive procedure, CoolSculpting may be for you. However, if you have larger areas of unwanted fat, and are looking for a more dramatic result, liposuction is the answer.

The best way to determine which treatment is right for you is through a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. Contact our Reno, NV office today to schedule your consultation!
