Radiesse

Radiesse is a dermal filler injection used to correct wrinkles and provide volume to the face.

Radiesse

Every now and then, Mother Nature can use a little assistance. Prime example: the use of Radiesse, a skin or dermal filler that is injected under the skin’s surface to correct wrinkling or to provide volume to areas of the face that would benefit from contouring.

Radiesse is made from Calcium Hydroxylapatite, a biocompatible, biodegradable material similar to one of the components found in your bones. Calcium Hydroxylapatite has been a safe and common ingredient in medical products for many years.

The Procedure

A topical numbing medication is applied to the targeted treatment area. Once it has been allowed to sit for at least 30 minutes, your treatment begins.

All fillers, including Radiesse, must be injected under the skin. There is a mild amount of discomfort associated with the procedure, but most is mitigated by the topical medication. In addition, Dr. Janiga can mix Radiesse with lidocaine to further decrease discomfort.

Recovery & Results

A small amount of bruising is normal with any facial filler injection. The risk of bruising can be decreased by avoiding blood-thinning medications for up to two weeks prior to treatment. If you are prescribed a blood thinner by your general physician, whether over-the-counter aspirin or prescription medication such as Plavix or Coumadin, please do not stop taking them without first discussing it with the doctor who prescribed them.

Mild swelling and redness may last up to two to three days, while bruising may last from three to 10 days. Mild discomfort in the treated area may persist for one to two days, though can be relieved with over-the-counter pain relievers.

If desired, applying a cool compress to swollen areas may reduce swelling and physical discomfort. Avoid, rubbing, picking, squeezing or manipulating the skin or filler underneath. Also, try to avoid vigorous exercise or activities for at least 48 hours after your procedure.

Radiesse lasts about 12 months depending on the area it is placed.
