Labiaplasty, a procedure offered by Janiga MDs, reduces the size of the labia minora, offering women genital rejuvenation in an outpatient setting.

As a plastic surgery practice, we often do work that’s highly visible to others, such as facelifts, breast augmentation and other cosmetic procedures. But we also perform more discreet, personal procedures such as labiaplasty. The term labiaplasty refers to the reduction in size of the labia minora. The labia minora are the bands of tissue on either side of the vagina that are directly inside the labia majora.

Hormonal changes in the body brought on by pregnancy, puberty, menopause and age can enlarge and darken the color of these tissues. Many women find these changes particularly uncomfortable for a few reasons. In some cases, the labia minora can become so large that they will interfere with sexual intercourse. Labiaplasty is one of the most common genital rejuvenation procedures performed by plastic surgeons.

The Procedure

The procedure is performed in a Reno outpatient ambulatory surgical center using sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Timothy Janiga cuts away excess tissue and closes the treated area. The goal of surgery is to reduce the labia minora, not to completely remove them.

A labiaplasty usually takes around one hour with another one to two hours for post-surgery recovery time before leaving the surgical center.

Labiaplasty Recovery and Results

Dr. Timothy Janiga will examine you during your post-op visit and advise you on when it’s OK to return to work. Most patients can return to non-strenuous work within a week to 10 days. More strenuous work demands can require a longer recovery period. Sexual intercourse should be avoided for a minimum of four weeks. Straddling type of activities such as cycling and horseback riding should be avoided for six weeks. Full results are expected within three months.
