What is a Malar Implant Exchange?
If you’ve had malar, or cheekbone, implant and are looking for different results, Janiga MDs is here to help. While malar implants are primarily used to enhance the appearance of facial symmetry, over time you may decide you want a different implant or size.
In these situations, Janiga MDs offers the option of malar implant exchange, which is designed to change the size, shape, positioning, or in some case, complete removal of the implant.
This procedure is typically performed in a Reno outpatient surgery center by Dr. Timothy Janiga using general anesthesia. Dr. Janiga usually follows your original incision lines when replacing the implant to reduce further scarring. Malar implants come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and Dr. Janiga will go over these options, as well as overall expectations, prior to scheduling your procedure.
Malar implant exchange takes approximately one to two hours, with an hour of recovery time.
Recovery & Results
Mild swelling is common and may last for seven to ten days. It is advised that patients recovering avoid work or strenuous activities for up to a week following the procedure.
Full recovery should be expected after three months, resulting in a more defined facial structure.
