Since becoming a cosmetic treatment, Botox® has gone through numerous clinical trials and received many cosmetic FDA approvals including glabella (11’s between the eyes or frown lines), forehead, neck, and crow’s feet. We commonly use Botox® for other areas also like the TMJ, upper lip lines, and even in microdoses for pores on the face. It’s also approved medically for chronic migraines, overactive bladder, severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis, and cervical dystonia.
We find that both men and women benefit from frequent Botox® cosmetic treatments. As a bonus, if you start early and maintain use of Botox® continuously, wrinkles take longer to form. Dr. Jennifer Janiga and her associates generally do not perform Botox® treatments on patients younger than 23 unless a medical condition deems it necessary. Also, women who are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or nursing should avoid Botox®.
Before your Botox® treatment, you’ll need to have a consultation with our team. Dr. Jennifer Janiga and her associates will review your medical history, discuss your aesthetic concerns, examine your facial wrinkles, and determine if botulinum toxin injections are right for you.
Before your botulinum toxin treatment, we recommend avoiding blood thinners, alcohol, smoking, and certain skincare treatments.
Because Botox® is a low-risk procedure, anesthesia is not required. The procedure only requires a simple cleaning and site prep before injection. Your provider will carefully place the Botox® injections throughout the predetermined areas to temporarily hinder the facial muscle contractions, thus eliminating the appearance of wrinkles through facial motion.
With little to no downtime, patients can go straight to work after treatment. You may have some swelling and bruising afterward, but those side effects will dissipate within a day or two. In the hours after your Botox® injections, you will want to avoid lying down, strenuous activity, or massaging or rubbing the treatment area.
We generally find that the effects of Botox® treatment last for three to four months for most patients. Your results will gradually settle over the course of the next few weeks after your treatment. Before your Botox® appointment, our staff will review expectations with you carefully.
At JanigaMDs, every Botox® treatment begins with a personalized consultation led by Dr. Jennifer Janiga, a board-certified dermatologist with extensive training in both cosmetic and medical dermatology and over twenty years of experience. She earned her medical degree from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and completed her dermatology residency at the Henry Ford Health System, building a strong foundation in facial anatomy, patient safety, and advanced injectable techniques. Her specialized knowledge allows her to design treatment plans that align with each patient’s facial structure, goals, and overall aesthetic vision.
Dr. Janiga’s professional excellence is reflected in her numerous awards and recognitions, including Best of Reno Dermatologist, Castle Connolly Top Doctor in Dermatology, Top Dermatologist, and Exceptional Women in Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and an elected member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, underscoring her commitment to both clinical skill and patient-centered care.
Patients at JanigaMDs also benefit from the practice’s unique collaborative approach, combining dermatologic expertise with insights from board-certified plastic surgery. This integrated environment ensures that Botox treatments are not only precise and effective, but can also be included in a combination, personalized treatment plan to provide natural-looking, long-lasting results that enhance confidence and overall facial balance.
Botox® treatments are performed in the JanigaMDs Reno office, and the procedure generally takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Because it is a minor non-surgical treatment, there is no recovery time, and people can return to normal activities right after the procedure.
