The non-invasive treatment works on all skin types and skin tones, making it safe for most people. If you currently have or have had melasma in the past, please inform your provider, as treatments may be modified based on this history. Before Sofwave™ treatment, patients will schedule a consultation with Dr. Janiga so she can examine their medical history and discuss their desired results to make sure Sofwave™ is right for them.
Sensitive areas like the face will usually have numbing medication applied or injected, depending on your preference, before the procedure. Once numbing is complete, your provider will start by cleansing the treatment area. The Sofwave™ handpiece will then be applied to the skin to deliver ultrasound energy through the skin’s surface into the mid-dermal layer. Most patients feel a warming sensation during treatment; there may be some discomfort felt at the end of the pulse, which varies by patient. Treatment can take up to 45 minutes per area, depending on the treatment area, so a face and neck will be 60-90 min for a full treatment.
Sofwave™ treatment is typically done in one treatment session for the face and neck, while tougher problems like acne scarring and arm lifting require more treatments, depending on severity.
There is little to no downtime after Sofwave™ therapy. You may notice some swelling or mild redness in the treated area, but those side effects typically subside within a day or even a few hours after treatment. Most patients can resume all their normal activities immediately after treatment.
Initial results may be visible after 1-2 weeks, with full results taking up to three months as collagen production increases. After three months, patients will see a significant difference in the texture and tone of their skin, with fewer lines and wrinkles and an overall more youthful appearance. The collagen you stimulate with Sofwave™ is yours forever, but as we lose 1-3% of our collagen annually, results usually last a year or more, with most patients desiring additional treatments every 1-2 years with a healthy lifestyle and good skin maintenance.
