Before receiving scarless gynecomastia treatment, patients will meet withDr. Timothy Janiga for an initial consultation. He will review the patient’s medical history and perform a thorough evaluation of their chest to determine if adequate gynecomastia correction can be achieved with BodyTite. Good candidates are healthy male patients with mild to moderate amounts of excess breast tissue and/or fat who have realistic expectations for their procedure. You will need to follow all preoperative instructions just like you would if you were having surgery in an operating room, including discontinuation of smoking, alcohol, blood-thinning medications, and supplements. If you take any medications prescribed by your doctor, please let Dr. Janiga know or discuss them with your prescribing doctor before stopping.

With the BodyTite machine, Dr. Janiga can use RFAL as an alternative to the traditional surgical option. This procedure can be performed in the operating room or in the office under local anesthesia. Most people choose to do it in the office unless they are combining it with other procedures that require operating room time to minimize recovery and cost. During treatment, the chest area will first be numbed with a tumescent anesthesia to ensure that you are comfortable. Then, a port site will be created in the chest tissue, and a small wand will be placed under the skin. This wand sandwiches the entire thickness of the skin between its probes and is used to deliver radiofrequency heat to the entire thickness of the skin. This heat melts the excess fat cells, tightens the skin, and reduces the excess breast tissue. Any excess fat is then removed with a traditional liposuction cannula through the same port site.
This procedure takes approximately one hour to perform per body area, occasionally more, depending on the end goal or if combined with other procedures. A more exact timing can be provided during your consultation.

Following scarless gynecomastia treatment with BodyTite, you will be wrapped with a mild compression garment to help with swelling for the first few days. You may experience mild discomfort for up to five days. There is minimal downtime compared with traditional surgery. It typically lasts one to two days but can last up to 10 days, depending on which areas are treated. Most patients can return to work within a day or two, depending on the nature of their profession. All other normal activities can often be resumed within one week.
