Botox Recovery Tips

Botox® is a popular cosmetic injectable used to prevent and treat dynamic wrinkles in the face. Botox® has been used for decades to treat medical conditions and in 2002, it became FDA-approved for softening lines and wrinkles. At Janiga MDs, Drs. Janiga and their associates help patients combat signs of aging with this cosmetic injectable.

Botox® Procedure

The procedure is very quick, taking as little as 15 minutes. Your provider will pinpoint the injection sites to treat the desired area. Then Botox® will be injected into these areas. This is a low-risk procedure, so no anesthesia is required but a few patients do like to ice beforehand. Afterward, your provider will review a list of detailed instructions for the following days while the Botox® cosmetic is setting in.

When Will I See Results?

Many patients will notice results within the first 1-2 days following their Botox® treatment. However, it can take anywhere from 7 to 10 days until the final results are complete.

Recovery Tips

Recovery starts with preparation, and one of the most important things to do prior to your injection is to avoid blood-thinning products such as ibuprofen, fish oil, or Vitamin E unless prescribed by a physician (if prescribed, please discuss this with your provider). Avoiding blood thinners will decrease your chance of bruising with the Botox® injections. After Botox®, it is important to know how to care for the treated area. There are a few steps to an easy, quick Botox® recovery. These steps are to stay away from strenuous activity for a few hours, and avoid touching or pushing on the treated area.

Avoid Strenuous Activity

Even though there is no official downtime for Botox®, it is still important to avoid strenuous exercise while the injection settles. For the first 4-6 hours, allow the body to rest while the injection sets in. Patients can still work and go about their normal activities, but take care to avoid heart-pumping activities for a few hours after the treatment.

Don’t Rub or Push on the Injection Sites

Although tempting, we at Janiga MDs advise patients not to touch, push, or rub the injection sites for the rest of the day. We want the product to settle in exactly where we put it to have the best and longest lasting effects.
