To help minimize the chance of bruising, patients may be advised to temporarily avoid certain supplements or blood-thinning medications. Patients taking prescription medication must consult with the prescribing physician before pausing their treatment. Your appointment will begin with the application of a topical anesthetic to promote comfort during treatment. The numbing cream takes about 20-30 minutes to take effect. Once the patient is ready, Restylane is strategically injected beneath the skin using a fine-gauge needle or a blunt tip cannula. The formulation contains lidocaine, which further reduces discomfort during the process. Most men find the procedure very tolerable, and treatment is typically completed in about 30 minutes.
Following Restylane treatment, temporary redness, swelling, or tenderness may occur at the injection sites. Mild bruising is possible and generally fades within one week, though healing times vary. Ice packs and over-the-counter pain medication can be used to reduce swelling and relieve any discomfort. There is minimal downtime, but patients should avoid strenuous exercise and placing excessive pressure on treated areas for approximately 48 hours to allow the filler to settle properly.
