What to Expect From Liposuction

What to Expect From Liposuction

I perform many liposuction procedures every year; it’s a popular treatment and the most widely performed cosmetic surgery nation wide. Removing that recalcitrant fat around thighs, hips or belly is an efficient way to contour the body and really make a difference in the way you look. But any plastic surgeon will tell you that it isn’t the only rung on the ladder to a beautiful, fit body.

What Is Liposuction?

The targeted removal of fat from the body for the purpose of sculpting, shaping and toning the figure. Liposuction does not prevent the future build-up of fat or fatty deposits, nor does it have any other salubrious or weight-loss effect.

What it is Not

I always tell our patients that liposuction isn’t a weight loss solution. The best weight loss and fitness solution is daily exercise coupled with a low-fat, nutritious diet. But even those two things sometimes can’t help you shed those last few pounds plaguing your waist line, or legs. I stress that any plastic surgeon will prescribe exercise and a healthy diet along with liposuction, and I may even recommend against it for patients not already committed to healthy living.

I can remove fat from the body, but unless a patient has made serious lifestyle changes, the weight will almost always come right back to where it was before the procedure. It is absolutely essential to exercise and eat healthy to maintain the results achieved from liposuction.

Long Term Benefits

The real benefit to liposuction is how you look and how that makes you feel. Being fit and healthy is an amazing feeling and looking as fantastic as you feel will reinforce everything you’ve done to get there. Your commitment to healthy living, exercise and a good diet will ensure positive long term results from your procedure.

Is it Right for Me?

If you have reached or are very close to reaching your weight loss goals, liposuction could get you the rest of the way there. We recommend you speak with a qualified surgeon to make sure you have realistic expectations about the short and long term results. I would be more than happy to answer your questions and give you more information so that you can make a well-informed decision. You can call my office at 775-398-4600. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
