What is Laser Resurfacing?
With advances in technology, cosmetic services can now help you achieve a younger, more radiant appearance. By targeting specific types of cells in the skin, resurfacing can significantly repair aged or sun-damaged skin.
Resurfacing can be done with a laser or with radio-frequency. Laser Resurfacing delivers CO2 or erbium to the deep layers of the skin to stimulate changes while radio-frequency resurfacing uses radio-frequency technology to achieve the desired result. At JanigaMDs, we offer all three types of resurfacing and these technologies can be tailored and combined for your type of skin, desired recovery time, and optimal outcomes. JanigaMDs is also excited to offer ThreeForMe™, which targets three different skin problems with one treatment.
The eCO2 3D is a next-generation fractional CO₂ laser system from Lutronic, designed to redefine skin resurfacing by combining power, flexibility, and precision. While CO₂ lasers have long been the gold standard in skin resurfacing, many traditional systems tradeoff between downtime, safety, and treatment flexibility. The new eCO2 3D addresses these limitations by offering a wide therapeutic range – from gentler “Precision Peel” sessions to deeper, more transformative resurfacing – all in one platform.
Key features include:
- Faster, more effective treatments and deeper ablation when needed.
- Three interchangeable handpieces to provide more precise control over the penetration of the laser on different types of facial skin that may need more or less intensity. This allows treatment customization between different patients, but also on different areas of the face and neck on the same patient.
- Dual modes for different levels of resurfacing for different parts of the face and neck and ability to blend those areas effectively.
- Controlled scanning technology, which randomizes the beam delivery to distribute energy more evenly, reducing hotspots, improving safety, and optimizing healing.
Clinically, the eCO2 3D is cleared for a broad spectrum of resurfacing indications including wrinkles, fine lines, surgical and acne scars, dyschromia, actinic damage, and textural irregularities.
Resurfacing Laser with
Dr. Jennifer Janiga
Laser resurfacing is a safe, easy, and effective way to combat imperfections on your skin.
At Janiga MDs, Dr. Timothy Janiga specializes in plastic surgery and Dr. Jennifer Janiga specializes in dermatology, giving their practice a unique, comprehensive perspective on their patients’ cosmetic needs in the Reno, Nevada area.
The eCO2 3D Resurfacing Procedure
During your consultation, Dr. Jennifer Janiga or one of her associates will assess your skin, concerns, and goals. Based on that evaluation, the appropriate spot sizes, depth, and mode will be selected to deliver an optimal treatment plan. The treatment area is cleansed and numbed using topical anesthetic to maximize patient comfort. For those that have a low tolerance to pain or would prefer the most comfortable procedure possible we offer nerve blocks for the full face and neck for those patients.
The fractional CO₂ beam is delivered via microbeams in a pattern that leaves intervening skin intact. There are two different modes: static and dynamic. Static is commonly used for deeper resurfacing to tighten skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, whereas dynamic delivers gentler, faster pulses for more superficial rejuvenation to even tone and smooth texture.
Treatment can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the number of areas treated, the size of the areas, and the intensity.
Recovery & Results
After treatment, a soothing ointment with be applied and we will provide detailed instructions for aftercare, including sun protection and gentle skin management during recovery.
Recovery can depend on how aggressive your treatment is. For lighter peel treatments, you can expect mild redness for up to 2 days and very minimal downtime. For moderate to deep resurfacing, redness and swelling can last for up to a week or more. Your provider will walk you through expected downtime, recovery care, and guidelines for sun avoidance and skin maintenance based on your specific treatment and skin type.
Deeper treatments will see transformative changes in just a single session, though lighter treatments will see results over time and may require repeated treatments to achieve desired results.
