Candidates need to be in good health and have realistic expectations for the outcome of their treatment. Patients with active infections in the treatment area or those with a history of allergies to any component of these medications should not receive these facial injections. Patients taking blood thinners should inform Dr. Janiga and consult with their prescribing physician to determine whether it is safe to stop taking them for a few days before treatment to reduce bruising.
Following your consultation, a topical numbing agent will be applied for about 20-30 minutes. Once the anesthetic is cleaned off and an antiseptic is applied, Restylane Refyne will be administered to the treatment areas using a thin needle. This filler contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to help ensure that the treatment experience is as comfortable as possible. The procedure usually takes about 15-20 minutes to perform, depending on the number of treatment areas.
Following treatment, patients may experience a mild amount of temporary redness and swelling around the injection sites. Cold compresses and anti-inflammatory medication can be used to reduce swelling and discomfort. There is minimal downtime and recovery, but patients should avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after the treatment to ensure optimal results. You can immediately return to work and other normal activities.
Noticeable results can be seen immediately after treatment, but final results can take up to two weeks to develop as the filler settles and swelling reduces. Most people will see results that last for 6-9 months.
