What is Latisse?

Latisse is the brand name for the medication bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03%, which was approved in the U.S. in 2001. It is used to increase growth, thickness, and darkness of eyelashes.

Most of the over the counter medications that you can buy for eyelashes are conditioners or thickeners like you use on your hair on your head, they make them look or feel thicker for a short period of time, but Latisse actually grows longer, thicker and darker permanent lashes with continued use.

How do I get Latisse?

Dr. Jennifer Janiga will be able to get Latisse for you right in her office. For more information, or to set up a consultation with Dr. Janiga to discuss Latisse in our Reno/Tahoe dermatology office, please send us an email or call 775-364-0224. Appointment length varies but is usually not more than 15-30 minutes.

How do I use Latisse?

You apply Latisse nightly, directly to the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes.

"Wonderful experience!!! Everyone is always helpful and polite. Always willing to work with rescheduling if needed. Love Jennifer, great bedside manner. Always looking for new ways to help with issues that arise." - JB

You will usually start seeing results after about three weeks of use, but maximum improvement takes approximately six to eight weeks.

If you forget to apply Latisse just for a few days nothing noticeable will really happen, although it may take longer to get to maximum improvement. If you completely stop Latisse, eyelash growth is expected to return to its pre-treatment level over a few weeks and your lashes will soon look the way they would have had you never used Latisse.

Latisse can be absorbed by soft contact lenses thereby increasing the concentration unnecessarily in the eye itself, therefore contact lenses should be removed prior to application of Latisse and should be reinserted 15 minutes following its administration.
