What is a Chin Augmentation?
For men, the goal of cosmetic surgery is to improve the look while still maintaining a “masculine” appearance. This involves achieving a balance of facial proportions, including a strong chin and jawline— something many men feel self-conscious about. With surgical procedures like chin augmentation or chin implants, the team at Janiga MDs can help by increasing or strengthening the prominence and definition of the chin, making the facial features more balanced and appealing. Dr. Timothy Janiga works with you to ensure your results are both masculine and proportional to your face.
The Procedure
Dr. Janiga performs chin augmentation in a Reno outpatient surgery center using general anesthesia. For men who desire an implant, Dr. Janiga makes an incision either inside the mouth or outside (under the chin). This incision creates a pocket for the implant to be inserted in front of the chin bone and under the muscle. When chin augmentation is performed without an implant, an incision is usually made on the inside of the mouth along the lower gum, while another incision is made under the chin. The chin bone may then be moved forward to its new position and surgical plates or wires may be needed to secure the new positioning of the bone.

Recovery & Results
Most men return to work within a week of chin surgery, but depending on your profession, you may need longer before returning to work. Swelling and bruising are to be expected, and if you have external sutures, they are removed within seven days. Full results are expected in eight to 12 weeks.
Once fully recovered, you will notice a stronger jawline and chin, improved jawline appearance, a more defined neck, and improvement in facial symmetry.
