What is a Tummy Tuck?
A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes extra skin and fat to create a smoother looking abdomen. Tummy tuck surgery is a great option for those that have had massive weight loss or pregnancy, are aging, and other factors. Women who have had children often have stretching of the abdominal wall and separated abdominal muscles that fail to go back to their pre-pregnancy appearance despite exercise and dieting. Patients who have experienced significant weight loss often have similar experiences because of stretching of the abdominal skin that took place before their weight loss resulting in loose skin. A full tummy tuck is the perfect solution for people who may fall into these, or other similar categories.
The Procedure
Tummy tucks are performed at our Reno outpatient surgery center Mountain West Surgical Center under general anesthesia by Dr. Timothy Janiga. The tummy tuck procedure generally involves a hip-to-hip incision to allow for muscle and skin tightening and excess fat removal.
An abdominoplasty or tummy tuck typically takes around two hours with two to three hours of post-surgery recovery time before you can go home and start to feel like your normal self again.

Recovery & Results
Dr. Timothy Janiga will evaluate you during your post-op visit, and will advise you on when you can return to work and the healing process. Our plastic surgeons typically do not want patients to lift more than five to 10 pounds for the first six weeks following the major surgery for proper healing. Your return to work can be expected within two to six weeks depending on your profession. Full results are expected within three months of your tummy tuck.
Once fully recovered from the tummy tuck procedure, you will notice a tighter, slimmer waistline and abdomen. The tummy tuck results will free your stomach from excess skin and fatty tissue.
