What are Fat Injections?
When patients seek to increase volume in specific areas of the body — including the face, hands, breasts or buttocks — fat injections from Janiga MDs are an exceptional choice. Fat injections make use of excess fat harvested from the patient’s own body and are a safe, natural alternative to other fillers. Fat injections produce long-lasting, natural-looking results.
The Procedure
Dr. Timothy Janiga performs fat grafting in the office (hands and face) or as an outpatient surgical procedure using general anesthesia (buttocks, breast). Once an area of the body has been selected for harvesting, the fat is removed through the process of liposuction. After harvesting, the fat is processed for transfer, it is then loaded into syringes to be used during the injection process. Dr. Janiga preps the recipient area and the fat is transferred in small amounts until the desired result is achieved.
Dr. Janiga has found this procedure to be effective for both men and women as early as their mid-30s for certain areas that may begin showing signs of natural aging and volume loss, but are an effective anti-aging treatment for men and women into their 70’s. Fat injections return missing volume and restore a more youthful look.
Procedure times vary, though fat transfer generally take between two and three hours. This procedure can be performed in office for smaller areas, and for larger areas will be performed at an outpatient surgery center.

Frequently Asked Questions about Fat Injections
Are fat injections painful?
You will be under general anesthesia during the entire procedure, so you don’t have to worry about feeling any pain or discomfort.
Where can fat injections be placed?
Fat injections can be placed in the buttocks, breasts, hands, or face at Janiga MDs Plastic Surgery & Cosmetic Center.
Who is a good candidate for fat injections?
Those people who are good candidates for fat injections include anyone who has enough fat on their body to be harvested and injected into another part of the body, those who struggle with volume loss in their face, hands, buttocks, or breasts, and those in generally good overall health with realistic expectations.
How is the fat harvested for fat injections?
The fat is removed from the donor site using liposuction. A small tube is inserted through an incision to loosen up the fat and then it’s sucked out using a vacuum. From there, the fat is processed and purified, and then injected into the treatment area.
How long does the fat injection procedure take?
How long the procedure takes depends on the number of fat injections you need, the number of areas being injected, and the results you’re looking for. Typically, the procedure takes about one to two hours.
