Bellafill® is a dermal filler designed to treat smile lines and acne scars. It is made up of tiny polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres suspended in a smooth collagen gel. Once Bellafill® is injected, the collagen gel immediately fills in the lines and wrinkles caused by sagging tissue or volume loss, and your body uses the microspheres to create a foundation onto which your own natural collagen can develop over time. Before Your Bellafill® Procedure

To prepare for your appointment, we’ll go over your medical history, and we may recommend avoiding certain medications and supplements that are likely to increase bleeding in order to reduce the risk of bruising at the injection site.

A topical numbing cream may also be applied before your Bellafill® injections to enhance comfort, in addition to the product itself containing lidocaine that will provide pain relief during treatment. Bellafill® contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to help make the treatment as comfortable as possible. During the procedure itself, Bellafill® is injected into the treatment area(s) using a fine, small needle. This process usually only takes about 15-20 minutes to complete and is easily tolerated by patients.

While some patients can see great results with just one treatment session, some individuals (especially when treating acne scars) may require two to three treatment sessions for optimal results. Your treatment plan will be customized for your specific needs.

After Your Bellafill® Procedure

Following your Bellafill® treatment, you may experience common side effects such as mild swelling, redness, or tenderness at the injection site. These are generally temporary and resolve within a few days. Some patients may notice a slight firmness in the treatment area, which is also normal and fades as the skin adjusts. You can typically return to normal activities immediately after your procedure, although strenuous exercise should be avoided for 24–48 hours as this may increase swelling.

A topical numbing agent will be applied to the skin for 20-30 min prior to the procedure to minimize any discomfort. Your provider will walk you through each step of the procedure to ensure you know what to expect and are comfortable.

How long do the results of Bellafill last?

The results of Bellafill can last for up to five years. This is significantly longer than most dermal fillers. At that point, you can receive maintenance injections. The longevity of Bellafill comes down to the ingredients in the formula. The polymethyl methacrylate microspheres allow the body to produce its own collagen over time, ensuring the results last well beyond when the Bellafill formula is gone.
