What is Xeomin?
Xeomin is a highly effective, FDA-approved neuromodulator injectable. The temporary treatment shares the same active ingredient as Botox (and other botulinum toxin products), botulinum toxin type A, and works to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles (dynamic wrinkles specifically) and contains a purified form of the toxin.
When injected, the formula temporarily stops the targeted muscles from contracting, allowing lines and wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions to smooth out and leaving you with a younger-looking appearance.
Xeomin is especially effective on moderate to severe frown lines (glabellar lines), but it can also be used on forehead lines, crow’s feet, and many other upper facial lines. It can treat neck laxity and banding that worsens with age as well. Xeomin can also be combined with other cosmetic treatments (like dermal fillers) for the ultimate facial rejuvenation.
Good Candidates for Xeomin

Most patients are good candidates for Xeomin, but there are some criteria we follow to determine if it’s the right treatment for you. You should be in good overall health, have realistic expectations, and you should not have had past allergic reactions to botulinum toxin products. You should not receive Xeomin if you have an active skin infection in the area to be treated.
Why Choose Xeomin Over Other Neuromodulators?
There are a couple of reasons why someone might choose Xeomin over other neuromodulators like Botox or Dysport. First, Xeomin is typically less expensive and may work the same and/or as long as the other products, so some patients choose it for the cost savings. Second, some patients have tried all the products and just like Xeomin best. Third, it may last longer in some patients than other products, and finally, there is some theory that as the toxin is purified it may be less likely to develop antibodies and may work in those that have developed antibodies to other products.
Before Your Xeomin Procedure
Before you ever have any Xeomin injections, you’ll first have a consultation with Dr. Jennifer Janiga or her associates. During this appointment, we’ll review your medical history, list of medications, and your goals. We’ll also examine the treatment area. From there, your provider will design a customized treatment plan that meets all your needs.
Before your Xeomin appointment, you will want to avoid blood thinner medications and alcohol as they thin the blood and make you more likely to bruise, if you are prescribed a blood thinner from your doctor’s office, please discuss this with us and your regular provider before stopping this or any medication. If possible, we recommend that you come to your appointment with a clean face that’s free of makeup, but if that is not possible we will help you clean the area at the office prior to your treatment.

Comparing Injectables
There are four main types of neuromodulators: Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin®.

Your Xeomin Procedure
The Xeomin procedure is very straightforward. To start, we’ll clean the planned injection site and using a very fine needle, your provider will inject the formula into the facial muscles. How many injections you require will depend on the number of areas being treated and the results you’re looking for. Treatment typically takes about 10 to 20 minutes.
After Your Xeomin Procedure
After your Xeomin injections, you will likely have some redness, bruising, and swelling, but those possible side effects of Xeomin will dissipate relatively quickly. To ensure proper healing and optimal results, you’ll want to avoid lying down, rubbing or massaging, or putting pressure on the treatment area for the first few hours. You’ll also want to avoid strenuous activities for at the first 24 hours. Beyond that, you can return to work and continue with most of your regular activities immediately.
What to Expect After Xeomin Treatment
The results of Xeomin takes 3-5 days before you start noticing results. It can take up to two weeks before you notice your full results. You can expect Xeomin to last 3-4 months. After that time, you will need repeated treatment to continue to enjoy and maintain your results.
