What is Breast Implant Removal?
Implants are designed to enhance the look of your breasts and give you an extra boost in self-confidence. But sometimes, women who have undergone implant procedures find that it’s not for them and seek to return to their original look. Others may have a modified body shape as they age, ruptured implants, or other complications that require your plastic surgeon to remove breast implants. For these cases, there is breast implant removal surgery offered by Dr. Timothy Janiga of JanigaMDs. The aim of this procedure is simple: to remove unwanted breast implants.
Type of Breast Implant Removal Surgery
We offer several types of breast implant removal, depending on your needs. This may include a simple implant removal, a capsulectomy to remove scar tissue, or an en bloc capsulectomy when necessary. If you want to maintain or update your appearance, we can also perform breast implant exchange with breast augmentation to replace old saline or silicone breast implants with new ones. In some cases, a breast lift may be recommended with your implant removal to restore a more youthful, lifted appearance.
Before Your Breast Implant Removal Procedure
Before your breast implant removal procedure, you will have a thorough consultation with Dr. Janiga to discuss your goals, review your medical history, review breast implant removal costs, and determine the best surgical approach. We will provide detailed instructions to help you prepare, including avoiding certain medications, stopping smoking, and arranging a ride home after surgery. During this time, we will also answer any questions you have and ensure you feel confident about your procedure.
Your Breast Implant Removal Procedure
We perform breast implant removal as an outpatient procedure at our Reno surgery center with the patient under general anesthesia. It generally involves accessing the current breast implants through the previously placed incision and removal of the implants. All steps are taken to avoid further scarring by using the initial incision when possible.
Existing scar tissue will also be removed if capsular contracture or other complications have impacted the breast tissue around the implant. If you and Dr. Janiga have decided that a lift is desired after your implant removal, the loose skin will be excised from around the breast area, and the breast tissue will be lifted for a natural, aesthetically pleasing shape.
In some cases, breast lift or breast augmentation procedures may also be necessary to restore breast symmetry after implant removal, depending on the implant size, length of time the implants were in place, and condition of the implant and surrounding tissue. The breast implant removal procedure normally takes one hour in surgery, with another hour of recovery time before leaving the surgery center.
