Clostridia botulina bacteria produce a class of chemical compounds known as “toxins”. The Botulinum Type A Toxin (BOTOX / Dysport) is processed and purified to produce a sterile product suitable for specific therapeutic uses.

At Janiga MDs, we use BOTOX® to help patients achieve a more youthful look. Although it’s mainly known as a wrinkle eraser these days, BOTOX® has a long history as treatment for crossed eyes, eye spasms and other motor disorders of the facial nerve. It was only in 2002 that BOTOX® came to be FDA approved to treat forehead wrinkles.
Since then, plenty of “off-label” uses of BOTOX® have emerged, including recent breakthroughs in treating migraine headaches. BOTOX® is also used to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and neck bands.

We find that both men and women benefit from frequent BOTOX® treatments. As a bonus, if you start early and maintain use of BOTOX® continuously, wrinkles take longer to form.
Dr. Janiga generally does not perform BOTOX® treatments on patients younger than 23 unless a medical condition deems it necessary. Also, women who are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or nursing should avoid BOTOX®.

The Procedure

Because BOTOX® is a low-risk procedure, anesthesia is not required. The procedure only requires a simple cleaning and site prep before injection.

Results of Botox®

We generally find that the effects of BOTOX® treatment lasts for three to four months. Before your BOTOX® appointment, Dr. Jennifer Janiga will review expectations with you carefully.

Schedule a Botox® Consultation

BOTOX® treatments are performed in the Janiga MDs Reno offices, and the procedure generally takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Because it is a minor non-surgical treatment, there is no recovery time and people can return to normal activities right after the procedure.
