New Sunscreen Labeling in 2012

sunscreen-min

The FDA has recently announced it will require sunscreen manufacturers to change the labeling for sunscreens starting 2012.  There will be a few differences that people will notice.

First and most importantly, the SPF rating will signify the protection against UVA and UVB. Currently the SPF rating only tells us the protection against UVB. This change will help consumers buy better sunscreen without really changing what they are used to looking for such as the SPF rating.

The second change will mandate posting the length of time that the sunscreen is water resistant for on the front of the bottle.  Keeping the public informed of time will help them know when to reapply.
