Treatment Spotlight: What Is The Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover in Reno is one of the most sought after procedures for women that we see in our office. After childbirth and/or nursing, we hear from moms that some stubborn areas just won’t return to their pre-pregnancy state. The mommy makeover surgery is a phrase that is used to describe two procedures that can be performed alone or combined into one surgery.
The two areas that are the most affected by pregnancy and nursing are the breasts and the stomach. It is common for them to not go back to their pre-pregnancy state. When this happens, both areas can be improved with a breast lift or augmentation and a tummy tuck. Many other things can be combined with the surgery including a thigh lift or even a full body lift, but traditionally the mommy makeover refers to procedures done on the breasts and tummy at the same time.
For the breast, pregnancy increases breast size and the tissue does not always return to normal afterwards. This can leave a woman with a deflated breast that is lower than she would like. The first portion of the mommy makeover brings the breast tissue closer to the pre-pregnancy state.
This can be done with just a lift or a lift with a breast augmentation. Some women require the augmentation to give them the perky breast that they had prior to pregnancy. Other women have enough breast tissue that only a lift is required. If an augmentation is necessary to restore the breast, this can be done with a saline or a silicone implant depending on patient and physician’s preference.
The tummy tuck portion of the mommy makeover is done to remove the excess tissue that does not rebound after pregnancy. With this procedure an incision is made along the lower portion of the tummy, usually this can be hidden under a bathing suit afterwards. The excess tissue is removed and a flat tummy is restored.
Often women report that their waist is wider after having children. This is a result of a widening of the stomach muscles that does not return to normal after pregnancy. This is called the diastasis. If you have a diastasis, and your waist has been widened with pregnancy, this diastasis can be tightened during your tummy tuck portion of your mommy makeover.
With the mommy makeover you can achieve a fuller and perkier breast, a flatter stomach, and you can even restore that waistline and hourglass figure. Just because you’re a mom, doesn’t mean you can’t look great. The mommy makeover is one of the most common procedures for women between the ages of 20 and 40 who come to our Reno plastic surgery offices.
