Restylane® Lyft is an injectable hyaluronic acid dermal filler that restores the face’s natural contours and fills in deep wrinkles for a refreshed, youthful appearance. Restylane® is an injectable product from Galderma Laboratories, approved by the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Restylane Lyft (formerly known as Perlane) is a cohesive substance developed for the correction of deep facial wrinkles and folds, specifically in the cheek area. It is on the thicker side compared to other fillers in the Restylane family and is used for those areas of the face that need a thicker “lyfting” product. Lyft’s cross-linked hyaluronic acid formula is injected into the deep dermis to create structure, add volume, and fill in severe lines while maintaining natural facial expression.
Restylane Lyft is specifically designed to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and mid-face volume loss that develop over time as a result of the skin’s natural aging process. Lyft can be used alone or in combination with other injectables to effectively address all areas of the face, like the lips, forehead, and chin, and various types of wrinkles, like marionette lines or frown lines.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are a naturally safe and non-invasive procedure and have been used since 1996 in Europe and 2004 in the United States to treat facial folds and wrinkles. Restylane Lyft is FDA approved for use in the cheeks and results in giving the face a more natural, lifted appearance; this makes it a great choice for non-surgical cheek augmentation. It can also be used to improve smile lines (nasolabial folds) in the middle of the face by lifting the cheeks. Restylane Lyft is also uniquely FDA-approved as a hand filler and can address volume deficiencies in the back of the hands and crepey skin that makes tendons and veins more prominent.
Most patients over the age of 21 who are in overall good health who desire non-surgical cheek or hand treatment can benefit from Restylane Lyft. However, those with current infections in the treatment area will need to wait until that has resolved to receive treatment. The risk of bruising can be decreased by avoiding blood-thinning medications for two weeks before your treatment. If you are prescribed a blood thinner, please do not stop taking it without first discussing it with the doctor who prescribed it. During an initial consultation with Dr. Janiga or her associates, they will assess your medical history and discuss your aesthetic goals to determine the best option for your individualized treatment plan.
On the day of your appointment, Dr. Jennifer Janiga or her associates will apply a topical numbing medication to the desired treatment area. Once the medication has settled for about 30 minutes, the treatment will begin. All Restylane fillers must be injected under the skin. There is a mild amount of discomfort associated with the procedure, but it is generally well-tolerated with a topical numbing agent as well as the anesthetic lidocaine found within the solution. The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes.
A small amount of bruising around the injection sites may last from three to seven days, depending on the individual’s healing rate. There will be some redness and swelling in the cheek area for two to three days. Mild discomfort may remain in the area for a day or two and can be relieved with over-the-counter pain relievers.
If desired, applying a cool compress to swollen areas may reduce swelling and physical discomfort. Avoid rubbing, picking, squeezing, or manipulating the skin or filler underneath. Also, try to avoid vigorous exercise or activities for at least 48 hours after your procedure.
Patients may see some immediate improvement, but final results can take up to 2 weeks to develop. Restylane treatment results last between six and twelve months, depending on the area it is placed. Patients can expect natural-looking results that complement their surrounding facial features with maintained natural expressions.
