What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel uses a specific formula to target the outer layers of the skin, inducing peeling. With the outer damaged skin cells removed, patients can enjoy new, brighter skin underneath. There are several different types of peels, each with a different active chemical, depending on the patient’s concerns. The TCA peel uses a nontoxic formula with Trichloroacetic Acid to refresh the skin without causing discoloration. TCA peels come in light and medium strengths, correcting mild to moderate skin concerns.
Who is a Candidate
Candidates for the TCA chemical peel are those who want to improve the appearance of fine lines, mild acne, sun damage, dull skin, or uneven pigmentation. The peel can also be used for overall rejuvenation, revealing fresh, smooth skin. The TCA peel is appropriate for many skin types, however, it is not right for everyone. Dr. Jennifer Janiga and Darci Page, NP can examine your skin and discuss your concerns to ensure that the TCA peel is right for you.
The TCA peel treatment is performed in Dr. Jennifer Janiga’s office in Reno. The skin will first be cleansed and prepped to ensure the formula effectively penetrates the skin. The TCA solution will then be applied to the skin. Most patients report a stinging sensation that lasts a few minutes. The entire process typically takes no longer than 30 minutes to complete.
Results & Recovery
After treatment with the TCA chemical peel, patients can expect some redness and temporary skin darkening, but should experience minimal discomfort during the healing process. Within a week of treatment, the outer layers of skin will begin to peel to show new, improved skin underneath. This new skin will be extra sensitive to the sun, especially if you had a medium peel. For about six weeks after treatment with the medium peel, patients should avoid prolonged sun exposure and continue to apply daily sunscreen. The results of the TCA chemical peel are long-lasting and treatments can be repeated in the future for maintenance.
