Head To Toe: A Look At The Top 10 Plastic Surgeries
Would it surprise you to learn the most popular plastic surgery procedure in America is breast augmentation? If you’ve been a reader of this blog for any length of time, then probably not. Still, some recent numbers from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons paint a very interesting picture of our collective plastic surgery trends in the U.S.
With overall plastic surgeries jumping 2 percent in 2015 over 2014 to 1.7 million procedures, the biggest spikes we see are with tummy tucks, breast lifts and liposuction. Despite a modest decrease in actual number of procedures performed, breast augmentation remains the top procedure for Americans. Here’s a look at the top 10 procedures, by the numbers:
- Breast augmentation (279,143 procedures, down 2 percent)
- Liposuction (222,051 procedures, up 5 percent)
- Nose reshaping (217,979 procedures, no change)
- Eyelid surgery (203,934 procedures, down 1 percent)
- Tummy tuck (127,967 procedures, up 9 percent)
- Facelift (125,711 procedures, down 2 percent)
- Breast lift (99,614 procedures, up 7 percent)
- Neck lift (54,281 procedures, down 2 percent)
- Breast reduction (40,650, down 2 percent)
- Forehead lift (40,450, down 4 percent)
It is interesting to note the breakdown of these surgeries, with half being body-related and half being face and neck. This trend is reflected in our own experience at Janiga MDs, where the numbers are nearly identical. We’ve recently speculated that this rise in facial procedures could be correlated to the growing popularity of cellphone selfies. We’ve also noted that we’re seeing more and more men come in for cosmetic work. Whatever the case, it’s clear that plastic surgery is growing, especially as society comes to embrace it as a way to combat the effects of age, gravity, parenthood and the various curveballs life throws you.
At Janiga MDs, we have years of experience with each of these procedures right here in our Reno offices. This includes breast augmentation with implant placement; lifts where the breasts are restored to a more youthful position; and reductions where the breast tissue is made smaller. We also perform liposuction on the flank, abdominal area, thighs or back to remove fat deposits. Liposuction can be combined with a tummy tuck to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen.
We’ll also work closely with you on any facial procedures to combine them in a way that best suits your needs and desires. We might, for instance, combine a forehead lift with eyelid surgery. We also perform face and neck lifts together quite often. By contrast, rhinoplasty is usually performed alone.
Whatever your cosmetic goals, it’s crucial to work with a plastic surgeon that understands your needs. To learn whether any of these – or other procedures – is right for you, contact me, Dr. Timothy Janiga, for a consultation where we’ll discuss your health and cosmetic goals in a confidential, one-on-one setting.
