Laser Skin Resurfacing: A Great Option for Facial Rejuvenation

Laser Skin Resurfacing: A Great Option for Facial Rejuvenation

Why Use a Laser for Your Skin?

Laser skin resurfacing, performed by a skilled Dermatologist, can be one of the best in-office treatments available for people seeking to rejuvenate areas of their face and neck. There are a number of useful dermatology applications for which the laser is perfectly suited. A wide variety of lasers  is available.

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Improve the Look of My Skin?

While some laser treatments remove tattoos and unwanted hair, resurfacing lasers are used to repair sun damage and unsightly scars (from acne, injury, or surgery), also to decrease pore size, decrease fine lines and wrinkles, and improve the texture, tone, and tightness of the skin. Laser Skin Resurfacing performed by an experienced, Board Certified Dermatologist like Dr. Jennifer Janiga, can leave the skin of your face looking tighter, smoother and, in Dr. Janiga’s opinion, is one of the best available in-office treatments.

What Lasers does Dr. Janiga use?

There are two Laser Skin Resurfacing lasers in Dr. Janiga’s arsenal. The ICON Non-Ablative Resurfacing Laser and the  ICON Ablative Resurfacing Laser utilize a gas called erbium to heat the water in your skin, making it possible to remove small areas of skin in a very controlled manner,  allowing new, healthy skin to take its place. Both of these are “fractionated” lasers that use a grid pattern to reduce the area of skin actually being lased, thereby reducing discomfort and healing times. The ablative laser is more aggressive and gives better results with one treatment. The non-ablative laser is less aggressive, requires a few treatments, and has much less downtime, and is FDA approved for the treatment of melasma.

What Kind of Recovery Time Can I Expect?

In some cases, you can expect to be back to your regular activities in two to three days. However, full recovery and the realization of the full benefits of your laser treatment can take a week or more, depending on the type of laser utilized, the size of the area treated and your own natural ability to heal.

Laser treatments are often included with other procedures to enhance your overall appearance. If you would like to learn more about your options at Janiga MDs, please contact us at our Reno/Tahoe office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Jennifer Janiga. We look forward to speaking with you.
